On September 6, 2025, a historic and unique event will take place in Tallinn—the beatification of Archbishop Eduard Profittlich SJ. This is a great joy for the entire Catholic community and for all who value the testimony of faith and fidelity. This day will not only mark a solemn ceremony, but also a profound spiritual moment which is worth preparing for.
Jesus himself says that "without me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). Therefore, it is important to open your heart to God's grace even before September 6.
Pilgrimage and Plenary Indulgence
One of the most beautiful ways to prepare is to take part in the Marian pilgrimage. Ad Jesum per Mariam (“To Jesus through Mary”), says the Catholic tradition.
Pope Benedict XVI has reminded us that the greatest gifts the Church offers are indulgences and the sacrament of penance. Thus, one way to prepare ourselves is to obtain a plenary indulgence.
This is possible, for example, during the Marian pilgrimage to Viru-Nigula on August 23, by fulfilling the conditions for receiving a plenary indulgence: participating in the sacrament of penance, receiving Holy Communion, praying for the intentions of the Holy Father, and firm resolve of the heart to entirely avoid sin.
Night Vigil before the Blessed Sacrament
Another profound way of preparation is adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, for example in the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul on the evening of September 5, lasting until midnight. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed so that all may come to pray and remain in silence before the real presence of Jesus. This is a special time to seek the intercession of the future Blessed for ourselves, for the Church, and for the needs of the world. Silence, reading of Scripture, praying the Rosary, or simply giving thanks for the love of Christ are the best ways to prepare for receiving the great grace of the following day.
Daily Prayer and Reading of Scripture
Preparation is not limited to great events. Each person can take time for daily prayer, whether at home or in the parish community. We may read Scripture, especially the Gospels, or turn in prayer to the intercession of Archbishop Profittlich. His life and martyrdom are a testimony of faith and fidelity that inspires us to live with courage and sincerity.
Communion and Gratitude
September 6 is also a day when the communion of the Church is made manifest. As we gather at Freedom Square, we are like one family, sharing the same faith and joy, like one heart and one soul (Acts 4:32). To prepare our hearts to rejoice together with others, it is good to pray already in advance not only for ourselves but also for all participants — that this day may be filled with peace and fraternal love.
Let us open our hearts to grace
Archbishop Eduard Profittlich gave his life out of fidelity to Christ. His example calls us to prepare not only outwardly, but above all inwardly. May our journey toward September 6 be filled with reconciliation, prayer, and love. In this way, the day of beatification will become not only a historical moment, but also a day of renewal of our hearts and deepening of our faith.
